The Russian military has used the Iranian kamikaze drones Shahed-136 to strike upon the city of Zaporizhzhia controlled by Ukraine for the first time, said head of the regional administration Oleksandr Starukh.
Infrastructure objects in two districts of the Zaporizhzhia city had been damaged, he added. According to the preliminary information, there is one injured man who was hospitalised.
A video of the alleged drone strike was shared on social media.
On 5 October, the Kyiv region authorities said kamikaze drones Shahed-136, previously bought by Russia from Iran, had been used to attack the city of Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region. One person was wounded.
On 13 September, the Armed Forces of Ukraine claimed to have shot down an Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle Shahed-136 for the first time.
At the end of August, The Washington Post reported that Iran had transported the first shipment of the drones to be used in the war with Ukraine to Russia. It is assumed that the delivery of Mohajer-6 and Shahed drones to Moscow was only the first part of the agreement. According to WP, Iran is planning to provide Russia with several hundreds of UAVs of different types in total.
Yesterday, 6 October, the Russian military carried out seven missile strikes on Ukraine’s city of Zaporizhzhia. According to the latest reports by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, at least 11 people were killed in the strikes.
