Ukrainian drone attacks military airfield in Russia’s Novgorod region, Russian Defence Ministry says

In the morning of 19 August, a Ukrainian “copter type UAV” attacked a military airfield in Russia’s Novgorod region, the Russian Defence Ministry reported on Saturday.

The drone was detected and shot down “with small arms fire”.

“As a result of the terrorist attack, a fire broke out in the airfield parking lot, which was promptly extinguished by firefighting teams,” the statement said.

One aircraft was damaged, there were no casualties.

Ukrainian Telegram channel War Monitor reported that at least two Tu-22M3 bombers had been damaged at the Soltsy-2 air base located in the Novgorod region. According to the Telegram channel, there were about 10 of them at the air base in total, with some of the aircraft currently being transported to the Olenya air base located on the Kola Peninsula in the northwest of Russia.
