Russia reports downtown Donetsk shelling by Ukraine

Ukrainian troops have shelled the centre of Donetsk, RIA Novosti and Russia-installed Mayor of the city Alexey Kulemzin report.

According to RIA Novosti, one residential building was hit, resulting in a fire in an apartment but no injuries.

According to Kulemzin, four districts of Donetsk were hit.

Russia claims that the Ukrainian attacks on Donetsk and neighbouring villages killed two civilians and injured several more. Moreover, residential and social buildings were also damaged.

Kulemzin published photos of the damaged pre-school in the Gornyak village.

“A civilian woman died in Donetsk’s Voroshilovsky district after Ukrainian forces used BM-21 Grad multiple missile launchers,” the authorities said in a statement.

The Russian Defence Ministry said counterattacks by the Ukrainian army were repelled near Donetsk.

Earlier, head of the Dnipro regional military administration Valentyn Reznichenko said that Russian troops had targeted a transport infrastructure facility in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro region. Railroad traffic has been halted in Kryvyi Rih following the missile strikes, top city official Yevhen Sytnychenko said as quoted by RBC.

Russian troops targeted the Dnipro region five times over the night, Reznichenko said.

Explosions rocked Dnipro yesterday, seven private houses were partially destroyed. According to Reznichenko, 13 people were injured in the attack, 4 of them including a 17-year-old teenager were taken to hospital. One person later died, 3 remain under medical care.
