Spokesman: Putin won’t address G20 summit attendants online

Vladimir Putin will not address the attendants of the G20 summit in Indonesia online, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov says.

Putin made his decision not to appear at the summit all by himself, Peskov says. “This was the decision made by the head of our state himself. The reason is the tight schedule and the necessity for him to stay in Russia,” Peskov stated.

It was revealed yesterday that Russia’s delegation at the summit would be led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

It was announced on Tuesday that Ukraine’s leader Zelensky would join the G20 summit by means of the Internet. Zelensky declared earlier that he would not take part in the event should Vladimir Putin attend.

“My personal position and that of Ukraine is that if the leader of the Russian Federation participates, [then] Ukraine will not participate,” the Ukrainian president said.

The G20 summit is scheduled for 15-16 November.
