Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that Ukraine’s Armed Forces had established control over the city of Lyman in the Donetsk region of Ukraine.
“As of 12:30PM, Lyman has been completely cleared,” he said.
Yesterday, 1 October, Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported to have liberated five settlements near the city of Lyman in Ukraine’s Donetsk region and encircled Russian soldiers nearby. Later in the day, Russia’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that Russian troops had withdrawn from Lyman.
Afterwards, head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov and founder of the Wagner Group Yevgeny Prigozhin declared that colonel-general Alexander Lapin was at fault for Russian forces having lost control of Lyman.
According to Kadyrov, Lapin led the defence of the area and “put mobilised fighters from ‘LPR’ on all frontiers, without providing them with the necessary communication means and ammunition”.
