Artem Dzyuba, forward of FC Zenit St. Petersburg, has announced that he is leaving the club.
Dzyuba published a video on social media, in which he says goodbye to the team wearing a Deadpool suit.
“And now, my friend, it’s time to move forward. The superhero is ready for new adventures,” the footballer said.
The athlete did not specify which club he will now be playing for. In March, he asked not to be called up to the Russian national team “over the difficult situation in Ukraine.” Dzyuba has relatives in Ukraine.
Artem Dzyuba joined FC Zenit in 2015. He played 249 matches with the club, scoring 108 goals. Since Dzyuba joined the club, it has won the Russian Premier League four times, the Russian Cup twice and the Russian Super Cup four times.
Dzyuba is the top scorer in the history of the Russian Premier League and the second top scorer in Zenit's history after Aleksandr Kerzhakov.
On May 18, CSKA Moscow’s right back Mario Fernandes suspended his contract with the club, citing “major burnout.”
Two days later, central midfielder Alan Dzagoev announced that he is leaving CSKA Moscow as well. It is unclear so far what his next team will be.
