The Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) has received a list of international agreements that Russia may denounce, compiled by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Pyotr Tolstoy, vice speaker of the State Duma, stated.
A source of Russian state news agency TASS in the State Duma noted that the list includes a large number of agreements signed over the past 30 years, which have been integrated into Russian legislation.
“We will reassess a number of international agreements: Russia left the Council of Europe. WHO and the WTO are next, as well as other agreements that bring more harm than benefits,” Tolstoy wrote on his Telegram channel.
Yesterday, members of the United Russia ruling party introduced a bill to the State Duma, according to which all rulings of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) made since 16 March 2022 will not be enforceable in Russia.
The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe ruled to exclude Russia from the organisation on 16 March. This decision followed the unanimous vote of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to exclude Russia from the list of its member states on 15 March.
The ECHR stated that Russia would formally exit the European Convention on Human Rights on 16 September 2022.
