Occupying Kherson government accuse Ukrainian security service of setting up prison riot, one man killed

The pro-Russian authorities of the occupied Kherson region claim that the Ukrainian Security Service set up a riot in a local prison, TASS cites Kirill Stremousov, the self-proclaimed “deputy governor”.

The local prison facilities are still controlled by the Ukraine. Stremousov claims that the Ukrainian Security Service has started to release people from prisons, but the Russian army has managed to “contain the situation and cope with the sabotage”. One man was killed while trying to escape.

“One man tried climbing over the prison fence and was shot,” said Stremousov. He also said that around half the prison personnel had escaped. “We’ll be trying to establish full control over the facility,” he added.

The occupying government of the Kherson region revealed their plans on addressing Russia’s president Vladimir Putin and asking him to accept Kherson Oblast as the new region of Russia on 11 May. Stremousov said that the Kherson region was planning to be under full Russian jurisdiction before the end of the year.

On April 26, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that Kyiv had lost control of the entire Kherson region. Shortly before that, Hennadiy Lahuta, the legitimate head of the Kherson region, said that the Russian military had appointed their own "government officials." Russian occupation forces appointed former mayor of Kherson Volodymyr Saldo as the region’s head and Oleksandr Kobets as mayor. After that, local officials reported that Kherson would switch to the ruble zone starting 1 May.
