Ukraine’s prosecutor general: at least 227 children killed in Ukraine since war began

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, at least 227 children were killed and at least 420 were injured, the office of Ukraine’s Prosecutor General stated.

On 12 May, a 12-year-old boy, gravely injured during the 1 May attack on the town of Popasna in the Luhansk region, died in the hospital, the prosecutor general’s office noted. These numbers are not final, as victims are still being identified in active combat zones, as well as in occupied and liberated areas, the office added.

A total of 1,748 educational institutions have been damaged in Ukraine since the start of the war, including 144 that were completely destroyed, the office of Ukraine’s prosecutor general informed.

The UN Human Rights Office reported on 13 May that at least 3,573 civilians were killed since the start of the war in Ukraine, and 3,816 were injured. A total of 1,314 men, 855 women, 78 girls and 94 boys were killed. The gender of 69 children and 1,163 adults killed since the start of Russia’s invasion could not be determined.
