Reuters: hundreds of bodies of Russian soldiers stored in refrigerated rail cars near Kyiv

Hundreds of bodies of Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine are stored in refrigerated rail cars near Kyiv, Reuters reports. According to Volodymir Liamzin, Ukraine’s chief civilian-military liaison officer, Ukraine is ready to hand them over to Russia.

Liamzin reported that there were several hundred bodies in the refrigerated train, and several such trains at the rail yard. Most of the bodies were transported from the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions of Ukraine, but there are bodies from other regions as well.

On 9 May, Al Jazeera TV channel published a video showing the bodies of unclaimed Russian soldiers allegedly killed in Ukraine kept in refrigerated train cars. According to the channel, the bodies of Russian soldiers were left behind after Russia had withdrawn from the Kyiv region. The dead soldiers are wearing clothing similar to the Russian military uniform.

Al Jazeera shows a bulletproof vest with a label written in Russian saying that it was produced by NPF Tekhinkom, a St. Petersburg company body armour manufacturer. The video shows that one of the dead servicemen has a patch of the Russian Armed Forces.

The Russian Defence Ministry last reported the official death toll in the war in Ukraine on March 25. The ministry stated that 1,351 servicemen were killed and 3,825 were injured.
