The Russian Armed Forces have shelled residential buildings in the Luhansk Region 31 times over the past 24 hours, governor of the region Serhiy Gaidai stated on his Telegram channel.
He added that two people injured in earlier attacks died in the hospital: a man from Lysychansk and an 11-year-old boy from Zolote.
The area of Popasna and Hirske, where Russian troops are attempting to advance in the direction of Orikhiv and Kamyshevakha, were damaged the most in the attacks. Gaidai added that the Russian advance was not successful, however, over 50 residential buildings were destroyed. Besides, a bridge was damaged in Rubizhne.
Three days ago, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that the militia of the Luhansk “people’s republic” had reached the administrative border of the Luhansk region with the help of the Russian army. On May 11, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Russian attacks on the region continue. Earlier, head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov stated that the town of Popasna is under Russian control. Gaidai then confirmed that the Ukrainian forces had withdrawn from Popasna.
