Russia’s Yandex, Mail.ru and Rambler have removed links to our website from their search results.
If you type “Novaya Gazeta Europe” in Russian into the Yandex search bar, you’ll see a disclaimer reading "some links are missing in the search results due to the requirements of the Russian laws." The company refers to the law on information which prohibits them from providing Russian users with links to websites included in the register of prohibited information.
Mail.ru shows the links to our Telegram channel, while Yandex and Rambler only display those if a VPN service is used or if a precise word combination is typed.
Our website was blocked in Russia due to ‘unreliable information’ about the Ukraine War on 29 April.
Yandex banned links to other independent Russian-language media outlets earlier for covering the events of the Ukraine War. This list includes Meduza, Mediazona, Holod, The Village and tayga.info.
