Two Vesna activists detained in St. Petersburg, potentially over criminal proceedings

Valentin Khoroshenin and Yevgeny Zateev, members of Vesna, a Russia-based liberal youth movement, were both detained in Saint Petersburg, says Vesna Telegram channel.

A criminal procedure was initiated against them, says Khoroshenin’s mother. Both are accused of ‘creating a non-commercial organisation aimed at depriving citizens of their rights.’ Vesna is not ready to confirm this.

“Anyway, what you need to know is that none of you followers are in danger, if the rumour is true, you should not be bothered. We remind you that we stopped recruiting new members as we started our anti-war campaign,” reads Vesna’s statement.

Khoroshenin’s Saint Petersburg apartment was searched, and he had all of his gadgetry and computers confiscated. Another search was made in the apartment belonging to the parents of Bogdan Litvin, another high-ranking member in Vesna’s hierarchy. All of his electronic devices were confiscated, too.

Vesna believes that the pressure against their members is caused by their anti-war campaign and their ‘They [Russian WW2 veterans] fought for a different thing’ slogan.
