A ‘suspicious item’ was found in a Berlin house where Russian reporters reside with their families. The Russian embassy has reported ‘preventing a potential terror attack’.
“One of the windows was broken with a glass bottle yesterday afternoon. During the inspection of the apartment in question, a suspicious item was found in an alcove, which turned out to be a large jerry can filled with unknown liquid, a plastic bottle and a gas tank with wires taped to the jerry can,” reads the embassy’s statement.
The local police evacuated the residents and involved a fire brigade and a bomb squad. The specialists have confirmed that the item is possibly a DIY explosive device. It was deactivated, and nobody was hurt.
“We find it possible that this flagrant incident is the result of the German witch hunt against the Russian media. Our journalists are indiscriminately accused of disinformation and propaganda,” says the statement.
The German police have already initiated an investigation on the matter. Both the Berlin Prosecutor’s Office and the local security service are involved, reports RIA Novosti.
The embassy was not specific on what journalists were in danger. RIA Novosti claims that those were their reporters.
