Ihor Kotelevsky, the mayor of Tokmak near Zaporizhzhia, was found dead on Saturday, Ukrinforma cites the local administration.
The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated, with suicide being one of the options.
Kotelevsky was 57 years old, and had a family of a wife and two children. He was Tokmak’s mayor since 2009, being a member of the pro-Russian Opposition Platform party. When the Russian army captured Tokmak in March, Kotelevsky refused to cooperate. It was reported that he stepped down as mayor in mid April.
Volodymyr Zelensky created a military government in Tokmak after Kotelevsky’s death, appointing Oleksandr Chub its chief.
