Berlin officials have banned the demonstration of pro-Russian ribbons of St. George, Soviet flags, as well as any flags related to both Russia and Ukraine from 06:00 May 8 until 22:00 May 9, Darya Dudley, an organiser of a pro-Ukrainian rally, said on Facebook.
“We were banned from showing the Ukrainian flag during a protest rally on May 8-9 in Tiergarten. We’ve just received a written notice,” she said. According to her, this ban has been introduced in practically every district of Berlin.
It was reported yesterday that the Berlin police had approved a march of the Immortal Regiment, a massive civil event during which thousands of people march in Moscow and cities around the world with portraits of relatives who took part in WWII. However, demonstration of any flags and military symbols, including V and Z, as well as the ribbon of St. George, will be banned. The project’s coordinator Yana Zaugarova said that military marches as a musical genre are also prohibited, along with military uniform of all kinds and its elements.
“The police retain the right to ban certain things during the event,” the organisers said. Non-adherence to these rules will be considered a provocation, they stated.
On April 21, Kyrgyzstan security officials called on citizens to avoid selling or renting military uniforms, as well as clothes showing the Z symbol, during the May 9 demonstrations, noting that wearing these symbols may incite inter-ethnic discord.
