CIA invites Russians to get in touch but “safety comes first”

The CIA has published a Russian-language post on their Instagram instructing people how to get in touch with the agency.

“The following is a guide on how to safely establish a virtual contact with the CIA. Please don’t take any thoughtless risks and make sure your personal safety comes first,” reads the post.

The guide suggests that a VPN service or Tor be used. The agency also recommends against using a home computer and reminds people that having the newest version of an Internet browser, turning on private mode and erasing browser history are essential.

The CIA has also shared a link to a dedicated channel asking informants to send their full name, job description, and the kind of information they possess. “Concerned Russians are trying to engage the CIA, and we wanted to provide a way to safely contact us,” the official said, per The Washington Post, adding that the instructions are meant for the people who “find it necessary to get in touch with us because of the unjust war the Russian government had started.”
