Two major explosions reported in Belgorod

Governor of Russia’s Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov reported “two major explosions” in Belgorod. No one was injured in the explosions, he wrote on his Telegram channel.

“30 minutes ago, I was woken up by two major explosions. According to the emergency response centre, there is no damage. No one was injured. There is footage of flashes in the sky posted on social media. Most importantly, no one was injured and there is no damage,” he wrote during the night.

The Belgorod regional governor later refuted claims that the explosions were a result of a Ukrainian attack. “This is not true. Our military aviation was fulfilling combat tasks within the framework of a special military operation. There was no threat to civilian lives,” he said.

A local Telegram channel Zhest Belgorod published a video that shows two flashes moving up in the sky and then disappearing. An explosion is heard in another video published by Belgorod Novosti.

On May 1, another explosion was reported near Belgorod. Regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that a fire had started at a Russian military facility, and one person was injured. On the same day, Kursk regional governor Roman Starovoyt stated that a railway bridge had collapsed in the region following an “act of sabotage.”

Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian officials have repeatedly reported shellings of border checkpoints. On April 26, Gladkov reported an attack on the village of Golovchino in the Belgorod Region from the side of Ukraine, adding that three people were injured. On April 25, the village of Nekhoteyevka was also shelled in the Belgorod Region, Gladkov stated.
