Russia strikes bridge across Dniester Estuary, local officials report

The Russian military has struck a bridge across the Dniester Estuary in Ukraine’s Odesa Region, a spokesman for the Odesa regional administration Serhiy Bratchuk reported.

Operational Command South of the Ukrainian Armed Forces added that the bridge was struck with three missiles. Information about damage and casualties is being verified.

Bratchuk added that regional law enforcement had detained 12 Russian operatives who were preparing acts of sabotage in Odesa on May 2. The detained Russians had guns and explosives on them, the regional head said.

On April 26, the bridge over the Dniester Estuary was partially destroyed as a result of a Russian attack. No railway personnel were injured in the attack. Traffic on the bridge was restricted following the strike.

The Dniester Estuary is a bay on the Black Sea coast into which the Dniester River flows. It separates the southwestern and northeastern parts of the Odesa Region. The bridge across the estuary is the only railway connection between the two parts.

Earlier today, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluznhy stated that Ukraine had destroyed two Russian Raptor patrol boats near Ukraine’s Zmiinyi Island (also known as Snake Island). Russia has neither confirmed nor denied this statement so far. It is impossible to verify the reports provided by the warring sides during an ongoing conflict.
