Azerbaijan is supportive of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and backs international law, says Ilham Aliyev, the country’s president, according to Interfax Azerbaijan.
“We support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and, just like other countries, we can state it frankly without ’hiding behind a tree’. We do indeed have good relations with Russia, yes. But we believe that the principles of international law should not be distorted due to political superiority”, he said in his statement.
Aliyev also reproached the international community for not supporting the ‘territorial integrity’ of Azerbaijan during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky stated earlier that Azerbaijan supports his country. “Aliyev supports Ukraine. It is problematic for them to provide us with weapons due to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, we don’t blame it on them, it’s fine”, he said.
