Zelensky’s adviser says world recognizes Ukraine’s right to strike Russian military facilities

Ukraine has the right to defend itself in any way, including strikes on Russian military objects, Mykhailo Podolyak, a political adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Twitter.

“Ukraine should decide whether to strike Russian military facilities, @SecBlinken [US Secretary of State Antony Blinken] said. Russia has attacked Ukraine and killing civilians. Ukraine will defend itself in any way, including strikes on the warehouses and bases of the killers [Russia]. The world recognizes this right.”

On April 26, UK Defence Minister for the Armed Forces James Heappey said that it was “completely legitimate” for Ukraine to strike objects on Russian territory, and the fact that Kyiv is using British weapons for that is “not necessarily a problem.” “It is completely legitimate for Ukraine to be targeting in Russia’s depth in order to disrupt the logistics that if they weren’t disrupted would directly contribute to death and carnage on Ukrainian soil,” Heappey stated.

In response, the Russian Defence Ministry stated that the UK had been provoking Ukraine to use British weapons and target the Russian infrastructure. "The advisers from one of the Western countries will not necessarily be a problem," the ministry quipped.

“Great Britain is provoking the Kyiv regime to start striking targets within Russia. Our side will respond immediately in the event of such a strike. As we have warned, the Russian army is able to execute long-range precision-guided strikes against decision-making centres in Kyiv,” reads the ministry’s statement.
