At least five people killed in Russian missile strike on Ukraine’s Odesa

Russian missiles struck infrastructure and residential buildings in Ukraine’s Odesa on Saturday, local officials inform. At least five people were killed in the attack, Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office Andriy Yermak stated.

A three-month-old baby is among the victims of the attack. Yermak added that the missile strike injured 18 people, noting that the number of casualties and injured persons may rise.

Odesa officials provided the details of the attack. “In the period from 14:00 to 15:00, the air defence unit of Air Command South performed combat operations to destroy enemy cruise missiles that were launched from Russia’s strategic aviation aircrafts TU-95 from the Caspian Sea,” the official statement says. Two missiles hit infrastructure objects, while two more hit residential buildings.

The Russian Defence Ministry later confirmed the attack on Odesa. “This afternoon, high-precision long-distance missiles of the Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed a logistics terminal in a military airfield in the area of Odessa, where a large batch of foreign weapons provided by the US and European states was stored,” Russian Defence Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov stated, quoted by Russian news agency Interfax.
