Two drones downed on approach to Moscow. Vnukovo and Domodedovo Airports change schedules
Air-defence systems intercepted two combat drones on approach to Moscow at around 4 AM, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reports.
The Russian Defence Ministry said that “the Kyiv regime’s” attempt to carry out a “drone terrorist attack” had been thwarted. “Two drones flying towards Moscow were destroyed by air-defence systems,” it added.
Nobody was injured.
Moscow’s Vnukovo and Domodedovo Airports introduced restrictions on plane arrivals and departures in the early hours of 10 August. These limits have been lifted now. At least 11 flights were delayed as a result.
Moreover, a fire and explosions were also reported in the town of Domodedovo in the night.
The Russian Emergency Ministry said that the fire broke out in the village of Konstantinovo. BBC in Russian reports that the airport is located around 10 km away from this place. The ministry clarified that a car service was on fire. The causes are unknown.
13 apartment blocks damaged in Zaporizhzhia missile strike
Russia’s missile strikes on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia has damaged 13 apartment buildings and more than 400 flats, head of the Zaporizhzhia city council Anatoly Kurtev reports.
Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia late on 9 August, killing two and injuring seven more. Preliminary reports suggest that the strike was carried out with an Iskander missile. The attack damaged a Peter and Paul church and a shop.
Russian Defence Ministry says 11 Ukrainian drones attempted Sevastopol strike
The Russian Defence Ministry has claimed that 11 Ukrainian drones attempted to carry out an overnight strike on annexed Sevastopol.
Two UAVs were “downed near Sevastopol by air-defence systems”, while nine more were “jammed with electronic warfare” and crashed into the Black Sea.
No one was injured, no damages were reported.
The ministry slammed this development as a “terrorist attack”.
Nine people now missing in Sergiev Posad plant explosion
Following an explosion that happened in a pyrotechnics warehouse located in an optical-mechanical plant in Sergiev Posad, nine people are now considered missing, TASS reports, citing emergency services.
A powerful explosion rocked the plant on 9 August. One woman died, 60 more were injured. The shockwave damaged 38 apartment blocks, more than 100 people complained about shattered glass.
The explosion in the “the pyrotechnics hangar” was caused by a “human factor”, TASS reported, citing emergency services. A 1,600 sq.m. warehouse was destroyed.
Germany sends two Patriot launchers, several rovers to Ukraine
Berlin has exported two Patriot launchers and ten Bandvagn 206 all-terrain carriers to Kyiv, the German government reports via its website.
Moreover, Germany transferred 6,500 155-mm smoke shells, 100 MG5 machine guns, five border guard vehicles, 12 military trucks, two loading and unloading vehicles, four Vector reconnaissance drones, as well as first aid kits and equipment to Ukraine.
Earlier, the US officially approved the export of the first Abrams tank batch to Ukraine. It is planned to arrive in the coming autumn. The tanks earmarked for Kyiv had to be repaired for several months. In the beginning of 2023, the Pentagon decided to transfer older M1A1 Abrams tank models instead of the more modern M1A2 ones to speed up the export timeline.
Russian man arrested for treason
A Blagoveshchensk court has arrested an Amur region resident for two months on charges of treason. The FSB believes that he wanted to join the Ukrainian army to fight, the court’s press service reports.
The domestic intelligence service says he received instructions on how to leave Russia from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The man attempted to travel to Ukraine via the Blagoveshchensk Airport but was detained. His name is not disclosed.
Earlier, 37-year-old resident of the Amur region Sergey Chunosov faced a criminal case on the charge of treason. Intelligence services believe that Chunosov also attempted to join the Ukrainian army.
The man was detained for disobeying police on 17 July. The criminal case against him was launched on 25 July.
