Moscow streamer detained and beaten after he waves to prisoner transport vehicle
A small-time Internet streamer was detained and assaulted in Moscow on Friday after he waved to a passing prisoner transport vehicle, with the incident appearing on his livestream.
The footage shows the man standing in a small group facing the street in Moscow’s central Kitay Gorod neighbourhood. He gives a small wave, and a few seconds later, a masked officer runs up and tackles him.
According to the outlet Varlamov News, the man’s name has not been released publicly. He broadcasts his videos on the streaming platform Twitch, where he has a little over 100 followers.
In a video recorded after the incident, the man said that there were also minors in the vehicle with him. He said the police beat the detainees, took their phones, threatened to shave the men’s heads, and used an electric shock device on them. All were released shortly afterward.
The man said he didn’t know why the other people in the van had been detained.
“We were completely packed in the prisoner van, and they started to harass and insult us there. At a certain point, one of the officers just took the shocker, opened the bars, and started [beating] everyone,” the streamer said.
