Russia’s autumn conscription postponed by a month due to mobilisation
This year’s autumn conscription in Russia will start on 1 November instead of the traditional 1 October due to military enlistment offices being overloaded amid the “partial mobilisation”, reports Russia’s state news agency RIA Novosti, citing the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
“Currently, military enlistment offices are overloaded due to the partial mobilisation. To not make matters worse, this decision was made. It will dilute streams of mobilised men and conscripts,” Peskov said.
Yesterday, 30 September, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on autumn conscription. The document states that 120,000 men will be conscripted in Russia from 1 November to 31 December.
On 21 September, Putin announced the beginning of “partial mobilisation” in Russia. Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu clarified later that the plan was to draft 300,000 reservists. At the same time, a Presidential Administration source told Novaya Gazeta. Europe that the hidden seventh paragraph of the mobilisation decree allows for the draft of 1,000,000 people, while the Meduza outlet’s source claimed that the number was 1,200,000.
