US and Ukrainian officials sat down to meet in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh on Tuesday, Reuters reported, in the next round of indirect US-brokered talks between Kyiv and Moscow aimed at bringing the war in Ukraine to an end.

Negotiations between the US and Russia over a potential ceasefire in the Black Sea lasted all day Monday, Russian news agency TASS reported, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov telling reporters on Tuesday that the details of the discussion had been relayed to Moscow and Washington for consideration.

A source in the White House struck a similarly ambivalent tone when they told Reuters that there had been “progress” in the negotiations.

Against the backdrop of the ceasefire negotiations, Russian drones again attacked the Kyiv, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine overnight, with Zaporizhzhia Governor Ivan Fedorov saying that two people were injured when a drone damaged a residential building in the region. There were no reported deaths or injuries in either the Kyiv or Sumy regions overnight, however.

All three regions have been repeatedly targeted in Russian attacks in recent days, leaving three dead in both Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia, as well as over 100 injured in the city of Sumy in a missile strike on Monday.

The Russian Defence Ministry said that it had neutralised five Ukrainian drones over the annexed Crimean Peninsula in the early hours of Tuesday morning, though no casualties were reported.
