The court in the Urals city of Chelyabinsk issued the man, referred to only as Konstantin, with a fine and released him from criminal liability, after he apparently presented the court with the medals he was awarded by the Wagner Group for the capture of Bakhmut as well as letters of gratitude from his commanding officers.

According to his ex-wife Tatyana, Konstantin had suspected her of cheating and attacked her in her apartment in late 2022, repeatedly punching her in the stomach and face. He was armed with a gun and threatened to kill her, before knocking her unconscious.

Tatyana’s eyesight was reportedly impaired in the attack. Before leaving the apartment, her ex-husband locked her inside with the children, taking the keys for both the apartment and the car. Tatyana said that she had been able to call her mother for help from a tablet.

Doctors later told Tatyana that she required surgery to replace her broken eye sockets with metal plates.

A criminal case was opened for “moderate harm to health” which was later dismissed. At the trial, Tatyana was advised to reconcile with her ex-husband, however she rejected this suggestion.
