Russian trans blogger fined for ‘LGBT propaganda’ and ‘army discreditation’

A Moscow court fined transgender blogger Milana Petrova (born Andrey Petrov) 250,000 rubles (€2500) for “discrediting” the Russian army and spreading “LGBT propaganda”, local news outlets and head of Russia’s “Safe Internet League” Ekaterina Mizulina reported on Monday.

The blogger herself was absent from the court hearing.

The case against Petrova was opened after Ekaterina Mizulina alerted the Centre for Combating Extremism to posts in the blogger’s Telegram channel, which were found to “promote” LGBT and gender transitioning as well as to condemn the actions of the Russian army.

Several news outlets reported on Sunday that Petrova had been detained. This information has not yet been confirmed.
