Military wife who starved her 9-month-old son to death arrested in Russia

She told the court that her problems started after the husband left for the Ukraine war

A Volgograd court has arrested a local woman suspected of killing her nine-month-old son, the press service for Volgograd courts reports.

Investigators believe that the woman went out of her flat for a few days on 3 August, leaving her son lying on the floor. He had no food or water throughout this time, which led to his death.

The Investigative Committee reported earlier that the grandmother found the baby’s body on 7 August. The investigators then launched a criminal case on charges of killing a minor, while the suspect was detained.

The woman told the court that her problems started because her husband left for the Ukraine war, V1.ru reports.

“I felt abandoned, there was no help. I would like to bring everything back,” she said.

The investigator footage shows the woman confessing to leaving the child home alone “to kill him”.

V1.ru reported earlier that her husband returned home after the news of his baby’s death emerged.

“My relatives called me, I was allowed to leave the service for family reasons,” he explained.

The local news portal also discovered that the family has two more small children, 3 and 5. They are believed to be with their grandmother now.

Neighbours of the arrested woman told V1.ru that they don’t know where she works.

“It feels like nowhere. She only went to the shops for beer and back. We barely see her. The music at her place was always banging like there was a party, but we never saw a lot of people, just one girlfriend of hers. But the music was at full volume every day. We listened to this banging for hours, like drums. How did the child live there at all?” they said.
