The Chinese Embassy to Russia has reported “drastic and excessive actions” taken by Russian law enforcement towards several Chinese citizens on the Russia-Kazakhstan border, as per a statement posted by the diplomatic mission on WeChat.
The embassy said that the rights of Chinese citizens, who had been crossing the border, had been severely infringed upon. The diplomatic mission also demanded that investigations into the incident be initiated. Russia is yet to comment.
“This contradicts the overall image of friendship between China and Russia and the growing tendency of friendly humanitarian exchanges between the countries,” the message reads.
On 29 July, Russian law enforcement employees detained five citizens of China on the Russia-Kazakhstan border and interrogated them repeatedly. They were denied entry, their tourist visas were annulled.
