Former leader of Russia’s proxies in east Ukraine Strelkov detained

Igor Strelkov, also known as Girkin, the former “defence minister” of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” and the de-facto leader of Russia’s proxies in the War in Donbas, has been detained by Russia’s authorities; his home is being searched, RBC cites two sources.

Strelkov’s lawyer has confirmed the news. Preliminary data indicates that a former member of PMC Wagner reported Strelkov to the police.

A post allegedly written by Strelkov’s wife appeared recently in his Telegram channel. She says her husband is accused of extremism.

Last November, a court in The Hague found Igor Strelkov guilty, alongside two other individuals, of the 2014 MH17 takedown that killed 298 people travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
