Russian Defence Ministry confirms missile strike on Ukraine’s Kramatorsk. Death toll now stands at 11

Russian forces struck a temporary housing facility for top commanders of Ukraine’s 56th motorised infantry brigade, the Russian Defence Ministry reported in its daily bulletin.

“The command and control posts of battalions of the 63rd mechanised and the 10th mountain assault brigades of the Ukrainian armed forces were hit near the settlements of Predtechyne and Vesele in the Donetsk people’s republic (as Russia refers to Ukraine’s Donetsk region — translator’s note). Near Novopavlivka, Donetsk people’s republic, a stockpile of missiles and ammunition of the 47th artillery brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces was destroyed,” the Russian agency noted.

Kramatorsk Mayor Oleksandr Honcharenko reported that the death toll in the Russian attack had climbed to 11, including a 17-year-old girl and two sisters aged 14. Moreover, 61 people are injured, including an eight-month-old baby, his life is not in danger.

According to Ukraine’s national police, Russian troops used Iskander missiles to attack the city.

BBC in Russian notes that three citizens of Colombia have been injured: founder of the Aquanta Ucraina (Stay Strong Ukraine) organisation and Colombian lawmaker Sergio Jaramillo, author Héctor Abad, and journalist Catalina Gómez. They were accompanied by Ukrainian novelist Victoria Amelina, who is also injured and is in critical condition.

Apartment blocks, retail spaces, cars, a post office, and other buildings were in the epicentre of the explosion, windows and doors were smashed and blown out. A fire broke out as a result of the attack.

Russian forces launched the attack on Kramatorsk late on 27 June. One missile hit a restaurant in the central part of the city, the other struck the village of Bilenke.
