Kyiv rocked by explosion during South African president’s visit

An explosion has gone off in Kyiv’s Podilsky district, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reports.

“An explosion in the capital. In the Podilsky district. More missiles are flying towards Kyiv,” he wrote.

Earlier, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Kyiv.

Air-raid sirens are currently sounding off across the whole of Ukraine. The national air force command is urging Kyiv and Kyiv region residents to take cover in shelters.

Ukraine’s air force command earlier reported that two Shahed-136/131 drones had been downed in the Mykolaiv region.

“Over the past 24 hours, sky defenders destroyed the following enemy drones: strike UAV Lancet, Orlan-10, Orlan-30, Zala, and one UAV of unspecified type,” the military said in a statement.
