Putin: Ukraine firing at residential areas and humanitarian facilities ‘serves no military purpose’

The Ukrainian army attacking residential areas and humanitarian facilities “serves no military purpose”, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with state award laureates in the Kremlin, as quoted by Russia’s state news agency TASS.

“Why is, let’s say it plainly, the enemy firing at residential areas? There’s no logic. What for, why, what is the point? And at, clearly, humanitarian facilities? It’s surprising. And it serves no military purpose, at all,” Putin said.

According to the data available to the UN as of 15 May, at least 23,600 civilians have been killed and injured in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. The organisation noted the escalation of hostilities, including missile strikes, which lead to severe humanitarian consequences.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reports that 487 children were killed in Ukraine because of Russia’s military aggression.
