Official: Ukrainian troops liberate two villages in embattled Donetsk region

The Ukrainian army has liberated the villages of Blahodatne and Makarivka, simultaneously advancing on the Bakhmut axis, Ukraine’s Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar reported.

“Our forces continue assaults on the Bakhmut axis. There is success near the Berkhivske Reservoir. [The Ukrainian troops] advanced by 250 metres,” she noted.

Maliar added, “there are advances between 300 and 1,500 metres on two sections”. “The villages of Blahodatne and Makarivka have been de-occupied. In the areas where our troops are defending, not a single position has been lost,” the official stressed.

Valeri Hershen, spokesperson for the Tavrian defence forces, told Ukrainian TV that the liberation of Blahodatne was “one of the first results of the counteroffensive actions”. According to him, the operation was carried out by the 68th Independent Jaeger Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Six Russian service members were captured in the operation.

Moreover, earlier reports suggested that Ukrainian forces liberated the village of Neskuchne in the Donetsk region on 10 June. The Ukrainian Defence Ministry did not confirm this information.
