Around 40 drones downed over Kyiv

Ukraine’s air-defence systems intercepted more than 40 drones over Kyiv overnight, head of Kyiv’s city military administration Serhiy Popko reported.

Air raid sirens went off across Ukraine in the early hours of 29 May. No information about injuries or victims have been communicated. This round of attack represents the 15th such occasion since the beginning of May.

The Ukrainian side claims that the city was targeted by Shahed drones. Simultaneously, Russia fired cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea area, potentially Kh-101/555.

The drone debris fell on a building in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynsky district, causing a fire. Moreover, more drone debris made a hole in the roofing of a residential building in the city’s Podilsky district.

Moreover, the Russian side struck targets in the Khmelnytsky district overnight, one of them was a military one, the local authorities reported. Fires broke out at fuel and military hardware depots. Five aircraft were rendered inoperative. Efforts are currently made to repair the air strip.

On 28 May, the day when Kyiv was celebrating City Day, the Russian side launched a record-high number of Shahed drones to strike Ukraine. In total, 54 drones were scrambled. The Ukrainian army reports that 52 of them were downed.
