Japan vows to assist Ukraine with 100 military vehicles and provide treatment for Ukrainian servicemen

Japan will welcome Ukrainian servicemen for medical treatment, and will provide Ukraine with about 100 military trucks and 30,000 meal kits for soldiers, TASS cites the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

In addition to military support, Japan promised to help with the restoration of Ukraine’s infrastructure. The ministry said that such a promise was made to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during talks in Hiroshima on 21 May.

The G7 summit was held in Hiroshima from 19 to 21 May. Zelensky attended the event in person, although he originally planned to join via video call. At the meeting, he compared Bakhmut to Hiroshima in the state after a nuclear bomb was dropped on the city. Zelensky also noted that now Hiroshima is a modern, actively developing city. He expressed the hope that someday the Ukrainian city will be as peaceful. The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in response to Zelensky’s comparison, said that “the White House did both.”

The Ukrainian President also said that he met with the Prime Ministers of Italy, the UK, and India, as well as President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of France Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
