Powerful explosion rocks Belgorod, forms crater

A powerful explosion occurred in Russia’s Belgorod overnight, local social media groups report.

Telegram channels say locals heard a loud noise. Preliminary data said no people had been injured, and only a few vehicles were damaged.

Vyacheslav Gladkov, the local governor, confirmed the explosion, saying no people were injured at first. He said a residential block had had its windows shattered, and several parked vehicles were damaged, same as a power line.

Russia’s Defence Ministry has reported that a Su-34 jet of its aerospace forces was flying over Belgorod, and was subject to an undue going off of an air-delivered munition.

“This resulted in residential buildings being damaged, no victims recorded. An investigation is ongoing,” the statement says.

Governor Gladkov later reported that two people were in fact injured.

“A woman with a head injury was admitted to the city hospital in moderate condition. Another woman got away with abrasions only, received treatment at the location, and refused to be admitted to hospital,” he says.
