FBI arrests 21-year-old Air National Guardsman over Pentagon leak

The FBI has arrested 21-year-old Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira in the case of the recent massive leak of classified Pentagon and intelligence agency documents, The New York Times reports.

Thursday afternoon, FBI agents, some heavily armed, arrived at the suspect’s home in North Dighton, Massachusetts.

The New York Times previously reported that Teixeira, who is a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, may be connected to the leak. He was identified by a trail of digital evidence as the moderator of a private chat room on the Thug Shaker Central server on Discord, consisting of 20 to 30 young men mostly discussing video games, memes, and weapons. The group included people from Russia and Ukraine.

A user known as OG, who called himself a military base worker, had been posting sensitive information in the chat room for months. However, the leak only started getting wider attention when one of the group members posted some of the documents on a public forum, from where they were picked up by Russian-language Telegram channels, The Washington Post previously reported.
