EU slaps sanctions on PMC Wagner and RIA FAN news outlet

The European Union has introduced sanctions against two entities associated with Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin: PMC Wagner and the online media outlet RIA FAN.

The document, published on Thursday on the EU’s official website, states that PMC Wagner spearheaded the attack on Ukrainian towns Soledar and Bakhmut in January 2023 and is actively participating in the Russian war against Ukraine.

The St. Petersburg-registered RIA FAN is part of the Patriot Media Group, a Russian media organisation whose Board of Trustees is officially headed by Prigozhin. “RIA FAN refers to the ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine as a mission to stop ‘Ukrainian Nazis’ and promotes actions undertaken by the Wagner Group”, the document reads.

The EU introduced sanctions against Prigozhin personally back in April 2022.
