Ukraine: Russia’s Shahed drones kill seven in Kyiv region, all targets downed by air defence over city proper

Russia attacked Kyiv with Shahed kamikaze drones it buys off Iran overnight, says Serhy Popko, head of the local city hall.

According to Popko, Ukraine’s air defence managed to shoot down all the targets, therefore, no damage or casualties were reported within the city limits.

However, the authorities of the Kyiv region have reported that three people were killed and seven were injured outside the city proper.

09:45 UTC The death toll has risen to four, says Andriy Nebytov, the local police chief. “We have just retrieved the dead body of a man, 40, from the 5th storey of the building destroyed by Shaheds overnight,” he said.

Ukraine’s General Staff has stated in its morning bulletin that Russia used 21 drones in its massive overnight attack, of which 16 were shot down.

Russia attacked Ukraine with Shahed kamikaze drones on 27 February. The cities under attack included Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi.

The Ukrainian air force command reported that its air defence systems had intercepted 11 out of 16 Shahed drones over Ukraine’s central, western, and eastern regions on 18 March.
