Apartment block suffers gas explosion in Russia’s Novosibirsk, five killed

A 5-storey house suffered a gas explosion in Russia’s Novosibirsk, three people were killed and eight were injured, RIA Novosti reports. NGS, a local media outlet, reports 11 injured.

9:00 UTC Two more bodies were retrieved from under the rubble, the death toll increases to 5, including a child, 2, TASS reports.

Andrey Travnikov, the local governor, arrived at the scene. “The rubble is still being cleared up at the explosion site, so it all depends on the rescuers and doctors. There are enough people and equipment out there,” he wrote on Telegram.

A total of 118 people are registered in the house, including 22 children. A temporary accommodation facility has been set up near the explosion site.

“As of now, the evacuation is over, 40 people stayed at the accommodation facility, and 80 will stay with their family and friends,” TASS reports.

Eight people were killed by a gas explosion in a residential building in the town of Yefremov, Russia’s Tula region, on 7 February as of actual data. A total of 20 apartments were destroyed. Russia’s Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings on the matter.
