Moscow: American citizen arrested for 13 days and fined €260 for walking a calf on Red Square

Moscow’s Tversky Court has arrested animal rights activist from the US Alicia Day, who was walking a calf on Red Square, for 13 days and fined her 20,000 rubles (€260), Russia’s state news agency TASS reports.

The woman was arrested for “failing to comply with a police officer’s order” and fined for “participating in an unsanctioned rally on Red Square”.

Day, 34, was detained yesterday, 31 January. She says she bought the calf on Russian classifieds site Avito and decided to walk it.

“I didn’t want to make a statement, I just wanted to show the cow her country, her capital. In fact, I like to sometimes walk farm animals, because sometimes people tell me that they start eating less meat after meeting my animals. But this time, I just wanted to spend time with her,” Day told media outlet Izvestia.
