Poland to provide Ukraine with 60 PT-91 Twardy tanks

Apart from the 14 Leopard 2 tanks, Poland will provide Ukraine with 60 PT-91 models, says Andriy Yermak, the head of Zelensky’s Office.

Mateusz Morawiecki, the Polish PM, has confirmed this in an interview for Canada’s CTV News. “Right now, we are ready to send 60 of our modernised tanks, 30 of them PT-91. And on top of those tanks, 14 tanks, Leopard 2 tanks, from our possession,” Morawiecki said.

PT-91 is a modernised version of the Soviet T-72 model.

Poland formally addressed the German government on 24 January, requesting a permission to provide Ukraine with its Leopard 2 tanks. The Polish President Andrzej Duda promised Ukraine earlier that 14 Leopard 2 tanks would be provided as the first international coalition aid package.

The US President Joe Biden announced on 25 January that the States would provide 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the same day that the allied countries would provide Ukraine with a total of 112 Leopard 2 tanks. Kyiv will start receiving those in three months.
