Heli of special flight squadron ‘Russia’ crash lands at Vnukovo airport

A Mi-8 helicopter hit the ground with its blades during landing at the Vnukovo airport in Moscow and was damaged, Interfax cites emergency services.

Russia’s Department of Presidential Affairs has confirmed that the helicopter is part of the ‘Russia’ special flight squadron. The agency noted that the helicopter damaged a rotor blade before take-off, not causing any injuries.

“The helicopter started whirling before take-off, a rotor blade was damaged,” says Elena Krylova, a spokesperson for the Department.

The squadron in question provides transportation for major officials, members of special agencies, and army troops. It is stationed at the Vnukovo airport, namely at the government-only Vnukovo-2 terminal.
