Russian actor Dmitry Nazarov who spoke out against war in Ukraine and his wife Olga Vasilyeva fired from Moscow Art Theatre

People’s Artist of Russia Dmitry Nazarov and his wife Olga Vasilyeva have been fired from the Moscow Art Theatre, Russian media outlet RBC reports, citing the theatre administration.

“Dmitry Nazarov had a conversation with the artistic director of the Moscow Art Theatre (Konstantin Khabensky — editor’s note), and following the conversation a decision was made to fire Nazarov and his wife Olga Vasilyeva,” Vadim Vernak, public relations deputy of the theatre’s director, tells RBC.

A play starring Nazarov was previously cancelled in the city of Nizhny Tagil. The organisers blamed the decision on the critiques on social media due to the actor’s anti-war stance.

Nazarov has previously spoken out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The actor regularly uploads anti-war videos, in which he reads poetry.
