Ice arena destroyed in missile strike on Eastern Ukraine

Two missiles struck the town of Druzhkivka, Ukraine’s Donetsk region, senior Ukrainian official Kyrylo Tymoshenko noted.

“One missile landed in the town itself, we know that 2 people have been injured. Another missile struck the village of Yakovlivka. The information is being looked into,” Tymoshenko wrote.

Fedir Ilyenko, the Donbass hockey club general manager, said that the Altair ice arena had been hit. A statement on the club’s website also reads that the arena has been flattened in missile strikes.

“This is the third home which the Donetsk club has lost because of the Russian occupants: the Druzhba sports arena, Mariupol Ice Center, and now Altair,”

the statement reads.

The Druzhkivka strike is believed to have been caught live on camera by France’s TMC TV channel.

Druzhkivka is located in the northern part of the Donetsk region, approximately 80 km away from Donetsk. It is controlled by Kyiv.
