Ukraine’s authorities: 32 ‘air targets’ shot down over Kyiv and region on New Year’s night

On New Year’s night, the air defence system activated in Kyiv and the Kyiv region shot down 32 “air targets”, the Kyiv city state administration reports.

“According to preliminary information, the air defence system destroyed 32 enemy air targets,” the message reads.

It was later clarified by the Ukrainian Air Force Command that 45 Shahed-131 and Shahed-136 drones had been shot down.

An air raid alert was declared in all regions of Ukraine on New Year’s night. Explosions were reported in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. According to local authorities, debris from a destroyed missile fell down on a car in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city.

Due to shelling, the city of Kherson and nearby villages were left without power seeing as a missile had hit a critical infrastructure facility, local authorities reported.
