Russia’s Ministry of Higher Education develops basic military training course for university students

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation together with the Ministry of Defence have developed a course on Military Training Basics which will be taught in Russian universities. The corresponding statement was posted on the ministry’s website.

“The module is aimed at forming primary skills to prepare students for military or other state service,” the ministry claims.

The course includes marching drills, tactical and medical preparedness basics, and “sections on the main directions of the socio-economic, political, and military-technical development of the Russian Federation”. During the module, students will also study “specifics of the international relations development” and legal grounds for military service.

Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science previously approved the updated school education programme. According to the document, high-schoolers will be told about the “coup d'état” in Ukraine in 2014, “reunification” of Crimea and Sevastopol with Russia, “special military operation”, and the following “sanctions imposed by the US and its allies” during history classes. Furthermore, students in grades 10 and 11 [16-18 year olds] will be taught some military training basics.
