The Russian army is withdrawing a part of its troops from the occupied Kherson region, says the General Staff of the Ukrainian army.
“The opponent is redeploying certain troops and is moving some of its units to the vicinity of Nyzhni Sirohozy [near Henichesk in the Kherson region],” says the report.
According to Ukrainian military officials, Russia’s servicemen “say they will leave Kakhovka until the end of the year as they speak to locals”. Some residents are being offered to move to the annexed Crimean peninsula.
The occupation “officials” of the Kherson region reported temporarily moving the capital’s region to Henichesk in November. They soon denied this, noting that Kherson remained the “administrative capital of the region” a day after Ukraine’s Defence Ministry reported re-capturing the city.
Henichesk is a resort town located just north of the Arabat Spit, a strip of land connecting Crimea with mainland Ukraine in the east.
